A personal story inside

Hey,

As you know, I have been writing this newsletter since October 2023. Today is the first edition of 2025.

I was writing a deep dive on Sah…well wait for the coming Sunday.

But I stopped sending you that email because I was checking the performance of my email. And I am quite dissatisfied with it.

Actually, I didn’t make any solid plan to grow this newsletter when I started. I just created a Beehiiv account and planned to start a copywriting newsletter. I asked my friend Nalini if she was interested in kicking off with me. She agreed and we did our first edition. I was collaborating with multiple creators to grow this newsletter.

My goal? To capture their network and grow my newsletter “quickly.” I mean seriously, how wrong I was.

By the time I understood it was impossible to grow this way, I already wasted 5 freaking months. One day, I sat down and started thinking about what went wrong.

I came to these conclusions.

  1. The collaborators were not very active so they didn’t have a community (no offense, they all are my friends and amazing but…)

  2. I was not clear with my target audience.

But was I able to improve myself?

No! Even after introspecting, I made the same mistake.

I switched the approach and started a breakdown of website copy, emails and every type of copy you can think of.

Again, I wasn’t clear with my ICP. And yes, I did this for the next 2 months.

In May 2024, I transformed my newsletter into an Email Marketing newsletter just because I switched my niche to Email Marketing completely.

After that, I started writing hacks—yes email marketing hacks. But there was something wrong. I am not an expert, nor did I work with many people so my iteration and testing are almost 0. How can I give a “hack” to my audience?

One more newsletter that I have been following for so long and got inspired by is Growth in Reverse by Chenell. My friend Vikra suggested it to me.

And then my brother asked me to check the starter story.

And I thought, yes, this is something I can do. If I can’t advise someone due to my less experience, why not make myself an amazing curator?

And that is the start of the current version of my newsletter. I started this on Nov 1 with Matt Lakajev, one of the rising creators from Australia.

In the final email of 2024, I told you I am not going to change the format of this newsletter. No, I won’t change it because I love it. And it is not just about you but as an Email Marketer, there is a lot to learn from the creators and their Email Marketing.

Yes, as an Email Marketer, I too struggled with it. It is quite obvious but the best thing is I learnt along the way. Now I am clear with who I am writing to, why I am writing, and how it will help you.

Though I will not use them and it’s unethical too, I love to write my emails myself (and make mistakes, haha)

This is not the only case, I also receive replies like this.

When I think about what the hell I am doing with this newsletter, these are things that make me smile and keep pushing to make it better…better and better.
