Hey,

As you know, I follow very few people on social media. I am very picky when choosing whom I follow and don’t follow because you become whom you follow.

This simple idea changed my vision—you can also try it. Social media is full of lies. People love to download Stripe dashboard images and try to sell you on their downloaded ā€œsocial proof.ā€ So, you must be wary of such people.

Today, I’m talking about someone who changed my perspective and how I viewed the world. My mindset from 2022 to 2025 has changed remarkably, and the person behind it all is none other than...

Sahil Bloom

Creator Spotlight:

When I first heard about Sahil Bloom, I thought he was from India, but a Google search proved me wrong. I was somewhat right because his mom is of Indian origin (Based in Bengaluru).

This Stanford University graduate used to be a baseball player and later served as a Vice President at a private equity fund managing $3.5 billion in assets. He later founded SRB Ventures, a venture investment firm, and owns SRB Holdings, a personal holding company comprising multiple cash-flowing businesses.

But, he started building his audience in 2020, during COVID. Initially, he started sharing insights and threads on Twitter about finance, personal development, and life lessons. Eventually, he became known for his "threads" that broke down complex topics into easy-to-understand concepts, further solidifying his reputation as a thought leader in personal growth and finance.

Currently, he has 1M followers on Twitter, 606K followers on LinkedIn, and 714K on IG. He is one of the most generous people on the internet.

Sahil started his newsletter Curiosity Chronicle back in 2023. Now he has freaking 800K email subs. Can you imagine?

Now we will discuss how he made this huge email list.

Let’s jump to it.

This is how he leveraged Email Marketing

As you know, I highlight this in every post, email, and conversation with my community to focus on educating your audience first and then think about selling.

Sahil Bloom is the perfect example of it.

A common thing in his and my newsletter is that we don't sell anything. We make money through sponsors instead.

Short form content

As I’ve told above, Sahil wasn’t a writer. He spent 7 years as an investor at a private equity fund, so he never wrote online. But he knew his subject well. So, he started writing about finance.

After that, his Twitter grew like this:

  • May 2020 – 500 followers

  • May 2021 – 187k followers

  • May 2022 – 580k followers

  • May 2023 – 937k followers

  • May 2025 - 1M

(Thanks for this data, Chenell)

One important thing to understand here is that he didn’t limit himself to certain topics, he played with broader topics and that is how he captured more readers.

Speaking of his social media copy, he often used number hooks to attract more people. He also used personal stories to engage and build connections with his audience.

His mantra? just show up and write daily, regardless of your knowledge. Borrow the authority but do it.

List growth

Now, we will see how he grew his email subscribers to 800K.

  1. Active writing on social media

He writes on X daily and then repurposes the content to LinkedIn and Instagram. This is his primary source of traffic.

In his interview with Ayush, he mentioned his 100K club, which is the X factor of his Twitter growth.

  1. Showing up on podcasts

In one of his podcasts with Ali Abdaal, he discussed his advisory business and personal life, and the video got 46K views. This helped him grow his email list too.

When he came to India last year, he did a lot of podcasts with creators like Ishan Sharma, and Raj Shamani which made him more popular because Indian people started relating more with him.

  1. CICA framework

In one of his podcasts, he mentioned this CICA framework, which stands for consume, ideate, create, and amplify. So whatever content he publishes, he makes sure to make it valuable because he believes in quality. That’s how people start a long-term learning journey and join his email list.

  1. Distribution

Sahil Bloom knows how to distribute content, so he sends emails twice a week—on Wednesday and Friday. He added a Sparkloop referral program link. If you share his content with 1 person, you’ll get a ā€œDecision-making Razorsā€ eBook, and for 247 referrals, you’ll get a 15-minute call with him.

  1. Paid ads

He uses the money from newsletter sponsorships to get more subscribers.

Here is what Nathan Berry said in his thread: He pays $1.50 for every subscriber referred to him by other creators, gaining an impressive 14,500 new subscribers per month (~480 per day).

Email copy

As I have mentioned earlier, Sahil didn’t have a writing system before the covid. But all he had was a strong foundation. Being an avid learner, he learns from everything. And the best thing about readers is that they love reading ā€œpersonalā€ content or more than reading a good copy.

Sahil’s newsletter does the same job. His content is more of a personal reflection and learning (he mentioned how his grandpa helped him learn things).

If you check his newsletter, you’ll see how effectively he uses anecdotes and hooks.

Anirban, can you tell me how he makes money?šŸ™‚ Well for sure, that is the ultimate goal of Dark Chocolate.

How Sahil earns

Sahil’s revenue source is newsletter sponsorships. He makes money through many other things but our main focus is Email Marketing, so we will stick to it.

Here is a tweet from Nathan’s thread, where he mentioned his earnings in February 2023. In 2025, he is making $70M/month from his newsletter.

If you want to do the same, go and re-read the entire edition again and apply everything he did but in your own way.

In 2023, Sahil said, he charges $3-4K for a small ad in the top corner. Now assume how much he charges in 2025 šŸ‘€

Key Takeaways

After studying Sahil for the last 1 year, it’s very clear to me that growth happens over time. But you can amplify the process with the right strategy.

Here are 4 main takeaways:

  1. Work on the volume game—write more and build the email list quickly.

  2. Use personal stories more than writing random stats.

  3. Don’t sell, instead educate your audience.

  4. Build relationships with your audience.

This seems so easy, but it is not. You need to do it daily and choose your ā€œhard,ā€ like he says. Your growth depends on the things you don’t want to do.

I’ll see you the next week, till then take care šŸ™‚
