Heyyyyyy!
In 2023, I received an email from someone launching a new program. It was a webinar promotion email, and I didn’t think twice before registering. That’s the power of his ‘brand’.
Over time, I became so drawn to his teachings that I eventually joined his program. He used a single email to pull me into his world.
He also holds a special place in my journey because he’s my first mentor.
So, drumroll pleaseeeeee… the creator I’m featuring today is…
Digital Deepak
My story with Deepak began in 2021 when my elder brother enrolled in his DDIP (Digital Deepak Internship Programme). One day, Deepak sent out an email, and my brother insisted I read it. That email was so thought-provoking and deep that I immediately signed up for his email list.
From then on, I continued reading his emails and learning from his insights. Fast forward to 2023, when he launched the Micro Internship Programme, I didn’t hesitate to join the first batch.
Since then, my journey with him has been incredible. I’ve worked from his office, attended his Digital Freelancer Programme, and gained a wealth of knowledge from his lessons.
Creators Spotlight:
Deepak Kanakaraju, popularly known as Digital Deepak (fun fact: the name isn’t just about digital marketing but represents the digital version of himself), is from Salem, Tamil Nadu, and later moved to Bangalore, a city he believes is perfect for building both his network (his network is his net worth) and career.
His journey began with BikeAdvice, an online motorcycle publication that went on to become India’s No.1 motorcycle blog.
After starting his digital marketing career in 2008, Deepak gained experience working with top Indian startups like Razorpay, Instamojo, and Practo, while simultaneously building his blog, DigitalDeepak.com, which became one of the top 10 digital marketing blogs in India.
The real turning point came when he launched his 100 Days Digital Marketing Course, this is the beginning of everything he has achieved today. This was also his first step into email marketing, and with this, he built his entire world.
Currently, Deepak has over 500K email subscribers, and here’s what you should know: he’s sold every internship batch, course, and product solely through email, without running a single ad. His email list serves as his billboard, paid ads, and everything rolled into one.
Deepak's email marketing inspired me to choose email marketing as my niche. I was fascinated by its power and was told I write great emails too—do I? (Reply with yes or no please)
Let me tell you more about him let’s just say many people sign up for my lead magnets, newsletter, and community.
Though not everyone sticks around (fun fact: 10% of people enter incorrect email IDs, 20% unsubscribe within 30-60 days, and 10% go cold every month), those who stay reap the benefits!
Today, Deepak is among India’s top 3 digital mentors, actively building micro-startups in public, and coaching lakhs of students through his cohort-based programs.
How he leveraged Email Marketing
Now we will see how he used Email Marketing and built his empire with it.
As I have mentioned earlier he started with his 100 days free Digital Marketing course.
Email Marketing is a MOF marketing
It helps you keep nurturing the leads
Deepak does this best with his CATT funnel
What is CATT?
Content, Attention, Trust and Transaction
Let me tell it in a visual way
This is his entire process
But this is not as easy as it seems.
Before diving deep, you need to know about Deepak’s email-capturing process.
He strongly advocates for a simple signup process and minimal barriers for potential subscribers. A clean landing page where users can easily enter their name and email is his go-to approach.
But the real game is in his segmentation strategy.
Let’s assume I am giving everyone the same kind of food, they’d eventually grow tired of it. But if you’re a pizza lover and I offer you pizza, you’d tell Anirban you are the best!
Similarly, Deepak customizes his emails to different groups of subscribers. He knows what to send to whom and avoids sending the same thing to everyone.
Here’s how he segments his audience:
Purchasers – People who’ve already bought his products.
Warm Leads – Those interested but not yet converted.
Webinar Leads – Registrants for his events.
Do you want me to deep dive any creator you like? Drop the suggestion as a reply to this email or add it to the comment or DM me on any Social Media.
Let me give you an example:
A few days back, I received an email about copywriting training where his teammate, Vijay, conducted a session and sold a copywriting cohort. Vijay’s email was sent to everyone who registered for the event, including those who didn’t attend the webinar.
This segmentation made sure that only the people who signed up for the webinar received the email.
This is the mail from Vijay
Also, he always writes catchy Subject lines, which quickly capture the attention
And the next metric I would love to mention is his open rate. He achieves as high as 70% for his drip marketing campaigns and 20% for broadcast emails. These rates are significantly above the industry average.
But what keeps his Email Marketing work 24×7
He utilizes drip marketing sequences, where subscribers receive a series of emails at spaced intervals. This method keeps the audience engaged and receptive to future messages while providing valuable content that builds trust.
And lastly, I want to mention why I and every people in his email list love his Emails.
He incorporates storytelling into his emails to make them more engaging, which increases the likelihood of readers remembering him and opening subsequent emails.
