Most people I know, hate this!
I hope you don’t.
Well, I am talking about dark chocolate.
Because I absolutely love it.
The dessert and the newsletter, both ;)
Hello there, friend!
I am Arshnoor Puri, a content and ghostwriter (also a coffee lover).
And today, I will teach you the difference between copywriting and SEO writing, with my amazing friend Anirban.
So, let’s get going!
Copywriting and SEO writing play crucial roles in digital marketing.
Yet, they are two very different fields.
Both are related to writing and digital marketing, but have very distinct:
-Style and Tone
-Target audience
-Focus and Goals
Let’s take these one by one.
Copywriting’s style and tone is:
-Persuasive and engaging
-Benefit-driven
-Confident and authoritative
-Concise and direct
It can vary depending on the specific marketing objective too.
SEO Writing on the other hand is:
-Informative and educational
-Objective and neutral
-Conversational and approachable
-Easily readable
SEO writing generally has a consistent brand voice.
The target audience for copywriting is usually warmer leads i.e. people who are already interested. It is based on specific demographics and involves understanding and speaking to the readers’ emotions, desires fears, pain points and problems.
For SEO writing the audience is much broader and it covers the diverse needs and interests of the readers. It is also keyword-driven, i.e. it uses the relevant words that the reader is most likely to search for relating to the topic.
The focus and the ultimate goal of copywriting are:
-Conversion
-Emotional response
-Brand awareness and identity
-Short-term results
For SEO writing, these are:
-Visibility and traffic
-To inform and educate
-Long-term brand building
-Organic lead generation
Ultimately, both are needed to have a strong brand, business, or online presence.
This was all you need to get started, but let’s now dive deep into these two areas with Anirban!
Helllloooooo my dark chocolate fam
What is up with you all?
Love to see you here again.
Well, Today I got Arshu as my co-author
We recently met from one group and we are good friends now.
Well, let’s start with the point where Arshu dropped her pen
To dive deeper into those key differences:
Copywriting often uses more emotive language and vivid descriptions to create an emotional resonance, while SEO writing maintains a more objective tone to inform.
Copy is meant to appeal to a target buyer persona with tailored messaging. SEO content is optimized for a broader audience interested in a keyword topic.
Copy convinces readers to take immediate action, like clicking a CTA button. SEO aims to provide value to searchers to keep them on-site and build awareness.
Copy is highly sales-driven. SEO focuses on informational intent and answering user questions.

However, there are opportunities to align copywriting and SEO:
Using keywords naturally in copy so it flows while also serving SEO goals.
Structuring copy properly with headers, subheads, bullets etc. to be scannable for users and search engines.
Ensuring brand voice and tone are consistent across both copy and SEO content.
Having call-to-actions in SEO content when appropriate to enable conversions.
The key is finding the right balance between conversion-focused copywriting and informative, optimized SEO writing. When executed well, they work hand-in-hand to deliver results!
Hope it adds value to your knowledge stack.
